Mother's Day is coming -- why not treat mom to a movie night? Settle in with a homemade dinner (courtesy of you) and watch one (or all!) of these heartwarming favorites? (Bonus hint: Looking for a recipe? The Parent Trap

Lighter fare than some of the other films on this list, Maureen O'Hara exquisite (and hilarious) performance makes this a perfect choice for Mother's Day. It's also probably my favorite film from this list.

I Remember Mama

Following the ups and downs of the "hard-knock life" of an immigrant family in the 1910s, this film is charming, at times funny, but ultimately a tear jearker that oozes sentiment without ever disintegrating into pathos.

Mildred Pierce

I haven't seen this film yet, but it seems to be a popular pick on the Classic Film boards for Mother's Day. Let's all try it and let each other know what we think?

Pocketful of Miracles

Who doesn't like a little bit of whimsy on Mother's Day? Bette Davis' performance is made more admirable when considering she respected the artistry of acting. She continued to seek out roles when the signs of aging began to show.

Dumbo

There is nothing cuter than a baby elephant with large ears, unless that same elephant becomes the underdog we are rooting for. When the cruelly nicknamed "Dumbo" is mocked by a group of children, mama steps in to protect him, and she soon gets locked away. This movie also features the beautiful lullaby, "Baby mine, don't you cry..."

The Sound of Music

It may be cliche, but this is still one of the best movies about motherhood every made, hands down.

Stella Dallas

Have your tissues ready for this homage to the ways in which motherhood often means self-sacrifice. I watched this movie in Women's Film Studies in college and cried the whole time.
